About GrandFamily AI: Meet Jen, the Nannie Behind the Site

Hi, I’m Jen.

Around my house, I’m Nannie. 💜

GrandFamily AI did not start because I woke up one day and decided I wanted to build a website about artificial intelligence.

It started because I was trying to manage real family life.

School emails.

Homework.

Appointments.

Passwords.

Big feelings.

Meal planning.

Schedules.

Family conversations.

And all the little things that somehow become one very big mental load when you are the person everybody depends on.

Somewhere along the way, I started using AI to help me handle pieces of that load.

Not to replace me.

Not to replace teachers, doctors, family conversations or common sense.

Just to help me get unstuck.

I am a real grandmother helping raise two granddaughters who are at very different stages of childhood. One is a teenager and one is in elementary school, which means our days can involve everything from high-school schedules and social life to spelling words, school papers and bedtime routines.

I also help care for my elderly mother, so there are a lot of moving parts in our home. I needed quick, practical solutions that could help me stay organized, communicate clearly and spend less time trying to figure everything out from scratch.

That experience made me want to create the kind of resource I had been looking for myself.

That became the beginning of GrandFamily AI.

💜 Why I Created GrandFamily AI

Raising children today is different from raising children years ago.

Schools use apps and online portals.

Homework looks different.

Phones are part of childhood.

Social media can follow kids everywhere.

Families are trying to manage more information, more technology and more responsibilities than ever.

And grandparents who are raising or helping raise grandchildren may be stepping back into parenting responsibilities at a completely different stage of life.

I wanted a place where that reality was understood.

A place that did not make grandparents feel behind because they did not understand the newest app.

A place that did not assume every family looks the same.

A place where technology could be explained in normal language.

And most importantly, a place where the goal was not to add more things to our to-do lists.

The goal was to make some of the things already on those lists easier.

The name has “AI” in it, but AI is not the whole story.

GrandFamily AI is about practical help for grandparents and kinship caregivers navigating modern family life.

That includes:

big feelings and difficult conversations

connection and memory-making

Sometimes AI is part of the solution.

Sometimes a checklist is.

Sometimes the answer is a conversation script.

Sometimes it is a better system for keeping track of school information.

And sometimes we just need another idea because the first five did not work.

🤖 How I Use AI

I think of AI as a helper sitting at the kitchen table.

I can ask it to:

explain homework differently
help organize a long list of tasks
draft an email
create a learning game
brainstorm family activities
help me prepare questions for a meeting
turn a complicated idea into plain English
give me another approach when I am stuck

But there are limits.

I do not believe AI should replace human judgment, professional advice or real relationships.

AI can help us think. We still make the decisions.

And I have learned that sometimes the difference between feeling completely overwhelmed and feeling capable again is simply having a good place to start.

That is what I want GrandFamily AI to be.
